Green My Years Program

Every Year Lived. A Tree Planted. A Legacy Grown.

A flagship environmental conservation and climate-action initiative of the Rotary Club of Nyeri that encourages every participant to plant one tree for every year of their life, turning their age into a living contribution to the environment.

Project Overview

The Green My Years Program is a flagship environmental conservation and climate-action initiative of the Rotary Club of Nyeri. It encourages every Rotarian, Rotaractor, partner and community stakeholder to plant one tree for every year of their life, turning their age into a living contribution to environmental conservation and climate action.

Through the program, the Club mobilizes Rotarians, Rotaractors, schools, partners and local communities to take part in tree-growing, environmental restoration and climate-action activities, with a strategic target of planting and nurturing more than 12,000 trees during the 2026–2029 period.

What It Involves

Where appropriate, the program will incorporate fast-maturing and fruit-bearing trees, including:

  • Avocados
  • Mangoes
  • Oranges
  • Tree tomatoes

This approach complements environmental conservation with food security, improved nutrition and potential household income generation, helping communities derive long-term benefits from the trees they plant and nurture.

Expected Impact

The initiative goes beyond tree planting by emphasising the survival, nurturing and long-term growth of planted trees. It will promote:

  • Ecosystem restoration
  • Biodiversity conservation
  • Carbon sequestration
  • Climate awareness
  • A stronger culture of environmental stewardship within the community
