On the morning of October 10, 2025, members of the Rotary Club of Nyeri gathered at Gathiuru Forest at 8:00 AM to take part in a tree-planting initiative under the club’s Environment Area of Focus. Forests in this part of the Mt. Kenya region play a critical role as water catchment areas, feeding the rivers and water systems that surrounding communities depend on — making conservation work here directly connected to the long-term wellbeing of the region, not just an environmental gesture.
Rotarians worked alongside one another through the morning, planting seedlings across the designated section of the forest. Beyond the direct environmental benefit, mornings like this one serve a second purpose within the club: they bring members together outside the formal meeting setting, building the kind of fellowship and shared purpose that keeps a service club active and engaged between larger projects.
Environmental initiatives like this one are also among the most visible, photographable projects a club can undertake — a visible, physical reminder of the club’s presence and commitment to the region long after the seedlings are in the ground.
